A round polar bear cub sits upright and looks straight ahead, with a small seal pup resting by its feet. Both animals are drawn with big shapes and thick outlines, so the page is easy for children aged three to six. Polar bears live in the Arctic, which makes this a good page for a winter or animal unit.
Coloring ideas
- Polar bears look white, so try light gray or pale blue shading and leave some areas white.
- Color the seal gray, brown or dark blue so it stands out from the bear.
- Add a pale blue ice floe under both animals.
- Use black for the noses and eyes and pink for the inside of the ears.
Quick learning activity
Polar bears have black skin under their white-looking fur, which helps them absorb warmth from the sun. Ask your child why a thick coat is useful in the Arctic and what animals and people wear in cold places.
